As best as I can tell, though the API has been improved, it did not get broken in this release. Claimed to be a "major release", and there are many *additions* to the API, along with many bug fixes, there isn't any *changes* to the API.
It no longer requires the GCC4 patch, and best as I can tell --disable-debug does nothing. Grepping the sources shows it only to be in one README.QNX file. Dependencies appear to be the same.
I think it is probably safe to update this one before the 6.2 release. Other comments are welcome.
I have it installed and will be building against it doing much testing.

The changelog says: SDL windows are no longer transparent in X11 compositing systems like XGL.
For me, this is an important bugfix, because this bug was easy to hit even without XGL.
