Description

New version of Make has been released. Many backwards-incompatible changes, so looks like a good candidate to postpone after LFS-6.2

I've just done a build with make-3.81 and haven't hit any problems so far (Xorg-7.1, KDE-3.5.2, Gstreamer and their deps). How widespread are makefiles that are going to hit the backward incompatibilities, and how hard are they to patch? Is it not worth considering the newer version for 6.2?

What you must ask yourself is what is gained by updating to this new version? If the answer is, "I'm not sure", then the only thing you're doing by updating is throwing more uncertainty (vim already) into the mix.

My vote is to get a book out, and quit worrying about minor package updates.

OK, I took another look at the NEWS file and can't see anything in there that warrants its immediate inclusion.
