The encoding files are optional and Poppler will automatically read them if they are present. When installed, they enable Poppler to render CJK and Cyrillic properly. Poppler Dependencies Required Recommended , , , and Optional , , , , or , , (preference is for OpenJPEG1, due to regressions with OpenJPEG2), and User Notes: This package can be optionally built with support for only one version of Qt4 or Qt5 or without any Qt support. You can selectively disable support for one or both, see "Command Explanations" section, below. Install Poppler by running the following commands: ./configure --prefix=/usr \ --sysconfdir=/etc \ --disable-static \ --enable-build-type=release \ --enable-cmyk \ --enable-xpdf-headers \ --with-testdatadir=$PWD/testfiles && make In order to run the test suite, some testcases are needed and can be obtained only from a git repository. The command to download them is: git clone git://git.freedesktop.org/git/poppler/test testfiles. Then issue: LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 make check. It seems that only the Qt4/5 libraries are tested. Now, as the root user: make install To install the documentation, run the following commands as root: install -v -m755 -d /usr/share/doc/poppler-&poppler-version; && install -v -m644 README* /usr/share/doc/poppler-&poppler-version; && cp -vr glib/reference/html /usr/share/doc/poppler-&poppler-version; Poppler Data If you downloaded the additional encoding data package, install it by issuing the following commands as the root user: tar -xf ../poppler-data-&poppler-data-version;.tar.gz && cd poppler-data-&poppler-data-version; Now, as the root user: make prefix=/usr install --enable-build-type=release: This switch is used to apply a higher level of compiler optimizations. Other options are: [relwithdebinfo/debug/debugfull/profile] --enable-cmyk: Include support for CMYK rasterization. --enable-xpdf-headers: Install some old Xpdf headers required by certain programs (e.g. Okular, LibreOffice and Inkscape). --with-testdatadir=$PWD/testfiles: Tell the test programs where the auxiliary files are located. --enable-libcurl: Use libcurl for HTTP support. --disable-poppler-qt4: Don't compile poppler Qt4 wrapper. --disable-poppler-qt5: Don't compile poppler Qt5 wrapper. LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 make check: Run the test suite. The environment variable LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 is only needed if the default locale does not include UTF-8. Installed Programs Installed Libraries Installed Directories pdfdetach, pdffonts, pdfimages, pdfinfo, pdfseparate, pdfsig, pdftocairo, pdftohtml, pdftoppm, pdftops, pdftotext, pdfunite, and poppler-glib-demo libpoppler.so, libpoppler-cpp.so, libpoppler-glib.so, libpoppler-qt4.so, and libpoppler-qt5.so /usr/{include,share,share/gtk-doc/html}/poppler and /usr/share/doc/poppler-&poppler-version; Short Descriptions pdfdetach lists or extracts embedded files from PDF files. pdfdetach pdffonts lists the fonts used in a PDF file along with various information for each font. pdffonts pdfimages saves images from a PDF file as PPM, PBM, or JPEG files. pdfimages pdfinfo prints the contents of the 'Info' dictionary (plus some other useful information) from a PDF file. pdfinfo pdfseparate extracts single pages from a PDF file. pdfseparate pdfsig verifies the digital signatures in a PDF document. pdfsig pdftocairo converts a PDF file to one of several formats (PNG, JPEG, PDF, PS, EPS, SVG) using the cairo output device of the poppler library. pdftocairo pdftohtml converts a PDF file to HTML. pdftohtml pdftoppm converts PDF files to PBM, PGM and PPM formats. pdftoppm pdftops converts PDF files to Postscript format. pdftops pdftotext converts PDF files to plain text. pdftotext pdfunite merges several PDF files, in the order of their occurrence on the command line, to one PDF output file. pdfunite poppler-glib-demo is a tool to demonstrate the API, and for use when debugging and testing Poppler. poppler-glib-demo libpoppler.so contains the API functions to render PDF files. libpoppler.so libpoppler-cpp.so is a C++ backend for rendering PDF files. libpoppler-cpp.so libpoppler-glib.so is a wrapper library used to interface the PDF rendering functions with GTK+. libpoppler-glib.so libpoppler-qt4.so is a wrapper library used to interface the PDF rendering functions with Qt4. libpoppler-qt4.so libpoppler-qt5.so is a wrapper library used to interface the PDF rendering functions with Qt5. libpoppler-qt5.so
