To correct this, one technique that works is to rename the existing home directory and create a new one with only an ~/.xinitrc file. You should also delete the directories /tmp/kde-userid, /tmp/ksocket-userid, and /var/tmp/kdecache-userid. Then log out and log in again to ensure the new directory is in use. Now, starting KDE will rebuild the menus. Move or copy any needed files from the old home directory to the new one. Do not move or copy the old KDE configuration files: .kde, .kderc, .fonts.cache-1, .local, .qt, .mcop, .DCOPserver*, and Desktop.
