Currently supported output targets include the X Window System, win32, image buffers, PostScript, PDF and SVG. Experimental backends include OpenGL (through glitz), Quartz and XCB file output. cairo is designed to produce consistent output on all output media while taking advantage of display hardware acceleration when available (e.g., through the X Render Extension). The cairo API provides operations similar to the drawing operators of PostScript and PDF. Operations in cairo include stroking and filling cubic Bézier splines, transforming and compositing translucent images, and antialiased text rendering. All drawing operations can be transformed by any affine transformation (scale, rotation, shear, etc.). User Notes: cairo will look for an X Render pkg-config file. If you use XFree86 as your X Window system, ensure this file exists (/usr/X11R6/lib/pkgconfig/xrender.pc) before beginning the installation. Install cairo by running the following commands: ./configure --prefix=/usr && make To test the results, issue: make check. Note that as many as 35 of the tests are known to fail for unknown reasons. If you do not have a gs binary in your path, many (up to 85 of the 122) of the tests will fail. Also, to enhance test coverage, the tests should be run with an available X Window screen (e.g. from a local xterm or equivalent window).
