    4 <para>The default settings for <envar>PKG_CONFIG_PATH</envar> are
    5 <filename>/lib/pkgconfig</filename>,
    6 <filename>/usr/lib/pkgconfig</filename> and
    7 <filename>/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig</filename>.  These settings are hard-coded
    8 and do not have to be exported with the additional paths. You may add to
    9 <envar>PKG_CONFIG_PATH</envar> by exporting additional paths on your system where pkgconfig
    10 files are installed. Note that <envar>PKG_CONFIG_PATH</envar> is only needed when
    11 compiling packages, not during run-time.</para>
