Of course, they are different, which means it is confusing
and difficult for folks to get a handle on what version of
what package is current.

At a minimum, GLib is out of sync. In order to get GNOME
to the recommended platform levels, the book will have to
reflect versions that gtk.org don't list. Bummer. :-(
