For Asian languages (e.g., Chinese, Japanese, Korean), special ""X Input Method"" software is needed, but it is not in the book.

There are many X input method programs. One of them (SCIM) is described in the Wiki: http://wiki.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/wiki/InputMethods
