22700	mariadb configuration	Bruce Dubbs	Bruce Dubbs	"I think we have a mariadb configuration problem in the book. I was doing some testing and it didn't seem to recognize the skip-networking option in the configuration file.

I tried to check the configuration with 'mariadbd --print-defaults' but got no output.

Upon researching, I tried 'mariadb --verbose --help'|less

At the top is says:

Default options are read from the following files in the given order:
/etc/my.cnf /etc/mysql/my.cnf ~/.my.cnf

The first problem is that we put my.cnf in /etc/mariadb/my.cnf. If I create a symlink from /etc/mysql to /etc/mariadb or put my.cnf directly in /etc, then the mariadbd server does find the configuration.

The second problem was that with our suggested my.cnf file the server fails to start. Looking at the logs, it does not recognize the option
no-auto-rehash. Removing that allows the server to start.

Looking at https://mariadb.com/docs/server/server-management/starting-and-stopping-mariadb/mariadbd-options, I can find no reference to no-auto-hash.

With further research it does appear to be in the mysql client.

In the blfs configuration file, that option is in a second [mariadb] section, but that section is defined as ""A general group read by all MariaDB programs.""

I tested and we can keep that option by changing the section to [client]: which is defined as 'Options for all client programs'.

The needed changes to the book are relatively simple. I recommend that we just put my.cnf directly in /etc and change the problem section name to [client].
