In order to use UTF-8 locale support in Lynx, the --with-screen=ncursesw switch should be passed. This works only on systems providing libncursesw (as of 20060209, this means LFS, but not HLFS or CLFS)
After installing Lynx, the display character set should be set in /etc/lynx.cfg, by means of the CHARACTER_SET directive. This should be the same as the output of "locale charmap". Alternatively, as done on the LFS LiveCD, compile Lynx with the --enable-locale-charset option and add "LOCALE_CHARSET:TRUE" to /etc/lynx.cfg. While this switch is listed as experimental, it works reliably with Glibc.
