Using bash 3.2 configure failed me with strange errors while checking GLIB.
This was due to ./common/m4/as-scrub-include.m4 line 33 :
GIVEN_CFLAGS=echo $GIVEN_CFLAGS | sed -e "s#-I$dir ##"
This is fixed with bash 3.2 patch 1 (which has already been released when I got this problem...)
If you have to build the manuals, the deps for transfig include xfig which needs Xaw3d which needs libXp and printproto in xorg. I had to add a total of 407MB of installed files, although admittedly most of that was tetex.
Developers who wish to build libcheck should not be mislead by the test for libcheck_pic in the configure script, it is anachronistic and the subsequent test for libcheck is all that has to be passed.
