6 * After the changes done on 2022-03-24, several "halt stop" should
7 have been changed to "halt start". Done now. Fortunately, those
8 occur only when something wrong happens with disks or devices.

28 * Mark an raid array clean when root (/) has been remounted
29 r/o when system goes down. Otherwise, array does remain
30 always 'dirty', causing a resync at next boot.

33 * New semantics for K and S scripts:
34 - S scripts only started if not already marked S in the previous runlevel
35 - K scripts only started if not already marked K in the previous runlevel
[623081a]36 - remove the convention of running S scripts with "stop" in rl 0/6

190
[2a1c1e0]1912011-10-06 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
192
193 * Add configuration for udev_retry, and remove --type=failed (which does
194 not work with recent udev versions anyway, since no events can possibly
195 trigger it). Start with just the "rtc" subsystem. BLFS should eventually
196 add "sound" to this file, and perhaps others.
197
1982011-09-18
[f874424]199 * Review and update of changes made in previous change.
200 ** Rename /etc/sysconfig/init_params to /etc/sysconfig/rc.site.

[a44ae577]206 * Append /run/var/bootlog to /var/log/boot.log at the end of
[f874424]207 the boot sequence.
208 * Add capabiltiy to step through the boot scripts at boot time
[a44ae577]209 * Optionally allow environment variables in sysconfig directory's
[f874424]210 console, network, and clock files to be placed in rc.site.
211 * Add an optional FASTBOOT parameter to set /fastboot when rebooting.
212
[0cda898]2132011-07-14 Bruce Dubbs <bdubbs@linuxfromscratch.org>
214 * Major rewrite of all LFS scripts
215 ** Move ifup/ifdown to /sbin
216 ** Move functions and network services to /lib/boot

220 ** Add /etc/sysconfig/init_params for adding environmental parameters
221 to all functions used in bootscripts
[a44ae577]222 ** Move network configuration to /etc/sysconfig/ifconfig.*. The
223 ifconfig files can have any extension. Use IFACE parameter to
[0cda898]224 specify the target network interface within the configuration file.
[a44ae577]225 ** Adds an optional parameter, SKIPTMPCLEAN, to skip the removal of
226 files in /tmp at bootup. Specify the variable in
[0cda898]227 /etc/sysconfig/init_params.
228
2292011-05-31 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
[43c2ecf0]230 * lfs/init.d/udev: Add multiple udev triggers for both subsystems and
231 devices per upstream recommendation.
232
[0cda898]2332011-04-19 Bruce Dubbs <bdubbs@linuxfromscratch.org>
[386b3177]234 * lfs/init.d/mountvirtfs: Add creation of /run/{var,lock,shm}.
235 * lfs/init.d/udev: Add /dev/shm -> /run/shm symlink.
236
[0cda898]2372011-04-18 Bruce Dubbs <bdubbs@linuxfromscratch.org>
[9f318ba]238 * lfs/init.d/mountvirtfs: Change name from mountkernfs to mountvirtfs.
239 Add mounting of /run filesystem.
240
[0cda898]2412010-05-29 Matt Burgess <matthew@linuxfromscratch.org>
[f2ca25f]242 * lfs/init.d/udev: Only copy /lib/udev/devices/null, as Udev >= 155 copies
243 devices from /lib/udev/devices to /dev itself. Udevd still needs /dev/null
244 present before starting up though.
245
[0cda898]2462010-04-20 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
[d3eda3d]247 * lfs/init.d/udev, lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Add --action=add, to handle udev
248 version 152 and newer, which send "change" events by default in udevtrigger
249 now.
250
[f78845c]2512010-01-24 Matthew Burgess <matthew@linuxfromscratch.org>
252 * lfs/init.d/udev: Check to see if /dev is already mounted, as it may be if
253 under an initramfs environment. See ticket #2550.
254
[42d8d33c]2552009-08-14 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
256 * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Use "udevadm trigger --type=failed", which
257 apparently replaced "--retry-failed" some time ago. "--retry-failed" is
258 removed in udev-146.
259
[4c0c012]2602009-01-02 Bruce Dubbs <bdubbs@linuxfromscratch.org>
261 * lfs/init.d/functions:
[a44ae577]262 * lfs/sysconfig/network-devices/ifup:
263 Updated line widths to accommodate pdf generation in both the above
[4c0c012]264 files.
265
2662008-10-27 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
267 * lfs/init.d/cleanfs: Removed '! -newer /proc' from find commands in
268 check for stale files in /var/lock and /var/run.
269 * Makefile: Reversed cleanfs and udev_retry scripts so that cleanfs
270 runs immediately after mountfs.
271
2722008-10-26 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
273 * lfs/init.d/functions: Remove stale pid files when encountered
274 in loadproc/killproc/reloadproc. When the bootscript specifies
275 a pid file to use with the "-p pidfile" argument, *proc
276 functions previously bailed out when the referenced file
277 contains an invalid pid.
278
2792008-10-23 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
280 * lfs/init.d/console: Removed BROKEN_COMPOSE as kernel patch has
281 been accepted upstream.
282
2832008-05-21 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
284 * lfs/init.d/udev, lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Use new udevadm program.
285
2862007-08-20 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
287 * lfs/init.d/setclock: Added missing 'stop' argument to usage text
288
2892007-08-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
290 * lfs/init.d/checkfs: Don't suppress error messages from the screen.
291
2922007-07-18 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
293 * Makefile, lfs/init.d/consolelog: New bootscript controlling the
294 kernel log level on the console. This is controlled by the LOGLEVEL
295 variable in /etc/sysconfig/console.
296 * lfs/init.d/modules: Remove the log level handling since this is
297 done in the consolelog script now.
298 * lfs/init.d/modules: Clean up the script by removing the file
299 descriptor duplication and instead just redirecting
300 /etc/sysconfig/modules to the input of the while loop.
301
3022007-06-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
303 * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/mountkernfs, lfs/init.d/setclock,
304 lfs/init.d/modules, lfs/sysconfig/network-devices/if{up,down}:
305 Don't suppress stderr during bootscripts unless necessary. This
306 would prevent potentially critical messages from reaching the screen.
307
3082007-04-24 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
309 * lfs/init.d/functions: When killproc is executed, it checks that
310 the process is still running, sleeps if it is, then checks again.
311 The sleep is 1 second in between checks. By sleeping for 0.1 seconds
312 in between checks, killproc is much faster as it's wasting much
313 less time sleeping in the normal case that the process has died
314 after a short delay.
315
3162007-04-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
317 * lfs/init.d/functions: Redirect stderr when using kill to suppress
318 output.
319 * lfs/init.d/functions: killproc() was not handling the case where a
320 pidfile is passed to the function. The logic with the signal to be
321 used was causing issues with the handling of pidfiles. This has been
322 fixes, and now killproc() will recheck the process if the signal
323 was TERM (the default) or KILL.
324 * lfs/init.d/functions: statusproc() has been changed to use pidofproc()
325 instead of the deprecated getpids(). Additionally, it now accepts
326 the -p argument to specify a pidfile.
327 * lfs/init.d/functions: Currently, statusproc() always returns
328 successfully, and the only way to know if the process is running
329 is to parse the output. This changes statusproc() to return the
330 status of pidofproc(), which will return unsuccessfully if the
331 requested process is not running.
332 * lfs/init.d/functions: Changed reloadproc() to use pidofproc() and
333 respect the -p argument for pidfiles.
334 * lfs/init.d/sysklogd: Remove a useless argument to reloadproc().
335
3362007-03-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
337 * lfs/init.d/functions: If pidofproc() is passed the -p argument
338 it can bomb testing a null variable with an integer expression.
339
3402007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
341 * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/console, lfs/init.d/setclock,
342 lfs/init.d/mountkernfs: &> redirection is not supported in POSIX.
343 Fortunately, it's equivalent to >word 2>&1 according to bash(1).
344
3452007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
346 * lfs/init.d/console: POSIX says that shells only need to trap on
347 signals. Trapping on ERR isn't always supported. Conditionals have
348 been added to set the $failed variable in spots that seemed
349 appropriate for checking errors.
350
3512007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
352 * lfs/init.d/functions: Use arithmetic expansion and string length,
353 which are both mandated by POSIX, rather than spawning two processes
354 every time boot_mesg() is called.
355
3562007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
357 * lfs/init.d/functions: In order to provide an `echo' which provides
358 handles the -e and -n options for all POSIX shells, a feature test
359 is added which stores its result in $ECHO. /bin/echo will be used
360 if the default echo is not capable. Changed the existing functions
361 to reference $ECHO when needed.
362 * lfs/init.d/console: Use $ECHO when -en is needed.
363
3642007-02-03 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
365 * ChangeLog: Rename from CHANGELOG, start using GNU style entries.
366
367 * Makefile: Move setclock before checkfs. Fixes #1948.
368
3692006-11-25 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
370 * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Copy Debian's "copy generated rules" initscript
371 code, to clean up when the rule_generator scripts run before / is
372 writable. (Since the rule_generator code is from Debian, I assume their
373 cleanup code is appropriate.)
374
3752006-10-15 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
376 * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Fix to work with udev >= 099.

1088 suppresses an error if no ifconfig.* files exist
[1c48007]1089
1090n/a - January 30, 2004:
1091
[4c0c012]1092 * Reorganized the network system to accept multiple services.
1093 * Ash Compliancy
1094 * Modified some scripts to follow template
1095 * Reorganized functions, based upon Ash Compliancy Patch
1096 * Added a sleep 5 to failure for evaulate_retval, and changed
1097 evaulate_retval to return true instead of false. Instead, a
1098 exit 1 will indicate the script terminated abnormally, causing
1099 your system to wait until you hit ctrl-J
1100 * Switched "Press enter to continue" to "Press <ctrl-j> to continue"
1101 * replaced 3 with $KILLDELAY in sendsignals
1102 * mountfs does not mount network filesystems [identified by _netdev
1103 in /etc/fstab]
1104 * removed unneded touch out of cleanfs
[1c48007]1105
1106n/a - January 30, 2004:
1107
[4c0c012]1108 * New maintainers for the lfs-bootscripts package are:
1109 Jeremy Utley (jeremy@linuxfromscratch.org)
1110 Nathan Coulson (nathan@linuxfromscratch.org)
[1c48007]1111
11121.11 - February 3rd, 2003:
1113
[4c0c012]1114 * /etc/mtab is now a real file and is handled correctly so there are
1115 no errors even when the machine has crashed.
[1c48007]1116
11171.10 - September 12th, 2002:
1118
[4c0c012]1119 * Fixed up checkfs to work with non-ext2 filesystems too (such as
1120 minix).
[1c48007]1121
11221.9 - April 5th, 2002:
1123
[4c0c012]1124 * reloadproc function had a missing '=' in the "failure 1" command (it
1125 should be failure=1)
[1c48007]1126
[4c0c012]1127 * When script exists with unexpected value, you have to hit "Enter" to
1128 continue, not just a random key as printed on the screen.
[1c48007]1129
[4c0c012]1130 * Moved K10sysklogd, K20sendsignals, K30mount and K40swap to
1131 K40sysklogd, K50sendsignals, K60mount, K70swap
[1c48007]1132
[4c0c012]1133 * Changed the #!/bin/sh lines to #!/bin/bash - /bin/sh may not be
1134 linked to bash but to some other shell of your choice. These scripts
1135 are written to work with bash, so you can't just run them when
1136 /bin/sh -> csh or ash or whatever else tickles your fancy. This
1137 change should fix that.
[1c48007]1138
11391.8 - March 14th, 2002:
1140
[4c0c012]1141 * Fixed the getpids function call so PPID's would be taken into account
1142 properly.
[1c48007]1143
[4c0c012]1144 * Added the 'contrib' directory with other people's bootscript
1145 implementations.
[1c48007]1146
11471.7 - March 10th, 2002:
1148
[4c0c012]1149 * Used code from Matthias Benkmann's simpleinit-msb @
1150 http://winterdrache.de/linux/newboot/index.html mainly for improved
1151 killproc function handling
[1c48007]1152
[4c0c012]1153 * When a requested process isn't running, or is already running, a
1154 warning "Not running" or "Already running" will be displayed. This
1155 was out of allignment due to a missing $CURS_UP
[1c48007]1156
[4c0c012]1157 * Removed "||exit" from ifup and ifdown scripts. They are useless.
[1c48007]1158
[4c0c012]1159 * Changed the loadkeys script to run "loadkeys -d" and removed the need
1160 for the /etc/sysconfig/keyboard file. The kbd patch fixes the
[4ecb5ad]1161 "loadkeys -d" behavior.
[1c48007]1162
11631.6 - February 26th, 2002:
1164
[4c0c012]1165 * replaced -o %PPID with -o $PPID throughout the functions script. This
1166 construct does what it's supposed to do (don't take PPID into account
1167 because this would fail if a running daemon and the bootscript have
1168 the same name).
[1c48007]1169
[4c0c012]1170 * added 'restart' to the swap script
[1c48007]1171
[cb02946]1172 * instead of using 'echo -n' to suppress newlines so the [ OK ] and
1173 related messages align properly, substitute this with a single echo
[4c0c012]1174 command that simply goes one line up before outputting anything. This
1175 also has the benefit that when programs have their own output (like
1176 swapon, fsck and loadkeys), there won't be an unwanted blank line
1177 between the program's output and the [ OK ] et all. messages.
[1c48007]1178
11791.5 - February 2nd, 2002:
1180
[4c0c012]1181 * added 'exit 1' to the statusproc function when there aren't enough
1182 parameters passed to it (such as the name of process to check for)
[1c48007]1183
11841.4 - February 2nd, 2002:
1185
[4c0c012]1186 * when /fastboot is detected and the message about it is printed,
1187 don't run 'exit 1' else the rc script will cause a [FAILED] to
1188 be printed which is undesired in this case.
[1c48007]1189
11901.3 - January 30th, 2002:
[4c0c012]1191 * network script: changed default route detection by using the same
1192 method as used when starting the script: check if the GATEWAY
1193 variable is set
[1c48007]1194
[4c0c012]1195 * removed the emptying of /etc/mtab since it's a symlink to
1196 /proc/mounts now
[1c48007]1197
[4c0c012]1198 * added the mountproc script which mounts the proc system. This is done
1199 because we need proc mounted even before the mountfs script is ran
1200 (now that /etc/mtab is a symlink to /proc/mounts)
[1c48007]1201
[4c0c012]1202 * removed all absolute paths from command calls
[1c48007]1203
[4c0c012]1204 * added umask 022 and PATH="/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin" to the
1205 functions script. Every file now sources this so that umask and PATH
1206 are set correctly
[1c48007]1207
12081.2 - January 26th, 2002:
[4c0c012]1209 * network script: detect if a default route is set before removing it
[1c48007]1210
