2<title>Creating a new partition</title>
3
4<para>
5Before we can build our new Linux system, we need to have an empty Linux
6partition on which we can build our new system. I recommend a partition size
[ab8b352]7of around 750 MB. This gives enough space to store all the tarballs and
[6370fa6]8to compile all packages without worrying running out of the necessary
[ab8b352]9temporary disk space. If a Linux Native partition is already available,
10this subsection can be skipped.

13<para>
[ab8b352]14The cfdisk program (or another fdisk like program the user prefers) is
15started with the
16appropriate hard disk as the option (like /dev/hda if he wants to create a
17new partition on the primary master IDE disk). He creates a Linux Native
18partition, writes the partition table and exits the cfdisk program.
19The new partition's designation should be remembered. It could be something
[6370fa6]20like hda11 (as it is in my case). This newly created partition will be
21referred to as the LFS partition in this book.
