[b822811]8<para>Enter the following commands to enter the chroot'ed environment. From
[6370fa6]9this point on there's no need to use the $LFS variable anymore, because
[81a47c0]10everything a user does will be restricted to the LFS partition (since / is

[b822811]15<para>The -i option will clear all environment variables for as long as you
[51c0c603]16are in the chroot'ed environment and only the HOME and TERM variables
17are set. The TERM=$TERM construction will set the TERM variable inside
[4af94fb]18chroot to the same value as outside chroot which is needed for programs
[7743e1e]19like vim and less to operate properly. If you need other variables
[b822811]20present, such as CFLAGS or CXXFLAGS, you need to set them again.</para>

[08463b5b]23install all the basic system software. You have to make sure all the
[81a47c0]24following commands in this and following chapters are run from within the
[607c7370]25chroot'ed environment. If you ever leave this environment for any reason
26(when rebooting for example) please remember to mount $LFS/proc
27again and re-enter chroot before continuing with the
