I have successfully install LFS-3.0 then immediately                           
                                                                               
     
upgraded to LFS-3.1. I used the Changelog section in the                       
                                                                               
     
3.1 book to determine what to upgrade.                                         
                                                                               
     
                                                                               
                                                                               
     
I've only encountered one problem, and found an easy                           
                                                                               
     
remedy. I used Caldera OpenLinux 2.2 as a base to start                        
                                                                               
     
with which does not install the crypt library (export                          
                                                                               
     
control issue). This causes sh-utils-2.0 to blow up                            
                                                                               
     
during the make. I found out that only su needed that                          
                                                                               
     
library so I simply copied all of the other shell                              
                                                                               
     
utilities into their proper places and continued on. The                       
                                                                               
     
statically linked su is not needed anywhere so the                             
                                                                               
     
remaining procedures work fine. Luckily, su was the last                       
                                                                               
     
item compiled under sh-utils.                                                  
                                                                               
     
                                                                               
                                                                               
     
I suggest a note be added to the ""Installing Sh-utils-                         
                                                                               
     
2.0"" section of chapter five, that at least points to a                        
                                                                               
     
hint giving the work around. I did not try ""make                               
                                                                               
     
install"" after the make failed. I suspect that might
