Description ¶
Doug tipped me off about this. On the announcement list, the RM said "Firefox 78.0.1 fixes a last minute issue that was discovered in 78.0 yesterday ..."
Release notes for 78.0.1esr now available, all they say is "Fixed an issue which could cause installed search engines to not be visible when upgrading from a previous release."

From the Release Note, I conclude that if the new stable series (i.e. 78esr) is not listed in various python scripts they will not do the right thing.
For people who have already installed 78.0esr I see no reason to upgrade if your chosen search engine(s) is/are working.
