Description
poppler-0.12.4 includes OpenJPEG as a recommended dependency. The link from the poppler-0.12.4 page in blfs-dev points directly to the OpenJPEG site instead of pointing to BLFS instructions for this package.
I build OpenJPEG version 1.3 (source retrieved from the site pointed to by the poppler page) using relatively conventional steps (no configure):
make make install
Adding instructions for OpenJPEG 1.3 should be straightforward and would simplify the build of poppler-0.12.4.

Ken, do you know which packages need to be put in the book due their being required by other packages? I was going to go ahead and knock the OpenJPEG package out (20 minutes work, tops), but if there is more important packages that need to be in the book, then as you say, they are more important and should be added first.
And just for easy location of the package: http://code.google.com/p/openjpeg/downloads/list

I doubt any of these are more important, my intention was to say it's more important a "required" dependency should be in the book, than a "recommended" dependency. Beyond what I put in #3179, I noted the following "requires one of these options" where options aren't in the book -
subversion: apr
exim: tdbm
balsa: GtkSpell
xinelib and mpg123: JACK or PulseAudio (here be dragons!)

subversion: apr
Actually, there are 3 ways to get APR installed for Subversion. 1) Install Apache HTTPD. 2) Install the "Subversion dependency package" which also includes Neon and whatever else is required. 3) Install the actual APR package.
While doing some research this morning, I read that since Apache has taken over the Subversion product, there is talk of including some sort of Apache Lite in the Subversion tarball that would include the APR stuff. We'll just have to see.

Version increment tp 1.5.0
I'm inclined to agree (even though we already have a shed load of old packages in the book that almost nobody uses). I was *surprised* that the cairo devs recommend this - after gtk+ lost it's need for jasper, I was assuming that jpeg2000 was on the way out.
But first, we still have a few packages with *required* dependencies that are not in the book. So for me, this is not a priority.
