New version.
Builds and works fine. Again, problems with "make check". But these are expected (for book's version of the package gtk+-2.24.21), according to:
http://ftp.riken.go.jp/Linux/gentoo/x11-libs/gtk+/gtk+-2.24.21.ebuild
However, if I try to use the sed for the first failure that I found
sed -i -e 's:pltcheck.sh:$(NULL):g' gtk/Makefile.am || die
then subsequently, it gives errors
automake-1.13: comando não encontrado [command not found]
