Description
sorry for raising theme again but if decision is made to not support gnome environpment there should be short explanation 'VIII. GNOME' to stop questions about gnome and aware readers to not start to try building gnome with current blfs
as for me i was not aware gnome is unsupported, spent a day following 30. and 31. and just then realised it is not complete. then found a snapshot-20121101, and added a minimal set of gnome-session-3.8.1, gnome-settings-daemon-3.8.1, gnome-shell-3.8.1, gdm-3.8.0 with dependencies and get basic gnome environpment working now
may be i know too few about systemd dependency, you reffer to, but for me it is not impossible to run gnome environpment on top lfs-7.4
if systemd problem is really so important i think reader should be aware VIII. GNOME is incomplete and blfs do not support gnome environpment with good explanation

ok, thanks, now see all the info is on place
problem is reader's habits ie skip parts of pure text
two tiny lines of text look too unemportant
may be add IMPORTANT section with content 'GNOME Desktop Envinonpment is REMOVED from book. Only some GNOME applications are available to build and use under OTHER WM'

Thanks, Armin.
By request of one editor, a day before this ticket was created, this subject was discussed and it was decided that some changes would be beneficial:
http://osdir.com/ml/blfs-dev/2013-11/msg00017.html
Implemented at revision 12132.
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/gnome/core.html
See the introduction:
" This section contains required packages for the GNOME applications to build and function properly. We don't provide any desktop related packages due to dependency on Systemd which BLFS doesn't support. "
You may be possible to build and install GNOME 3.10 without systemd, but you will likely be missing some functionality. I, who was responsible for GNOME back then. decided to remove entire desktop since I didn't want to apply all kinds of workarrounds (if possible) to add it in the book because I am systemd user and I couldn't test it in standard BLFS environment (ConsoleKit and all that insecure stuff). No one else stepped up to try to make it work, so it was removed from the book.
The packages that depend on systemd are gnome-settings-daemon, gnome-control-center, gdm, gnome-session. There might be some more, but these are most important ones.
