I am getting the same .so as ArchLinux:
./usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/gi/_gi.so ./usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/gi/_gi_cairo.so
./usr/lib/python3.4/site-packages/gi/_gi_cairo.cpython-34m.so ./usr/lib/python3.4/site-packages/gi/_gi.cpython-34m.so
The book has:
Installed Library: libpyglib-gi-2.0-python.so and/or libpyglib-gi-2.0-python3.so
which I do not have in the new version.
With these considerations, I was ready to update the book.
Will do it tomorrow.

I cannot understand. It is not generating main libraries for python 2 or 3.
Things that I do not easily understand, I will give back to the book. Too many packages to update, at the moment.
