#5000 closed enhancement (fixed)

Split GCC pages

Reported by: Pierre Labastie Owned by: Pierre Labastie
Priority: normal Milestone: 7.6
Component: BOOK Version: SVN
Severity: normal Keywords:

Description

Right now, Java-gcj is almost useless, since there is no associated Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Installing a JVM is possible, but would have specific requirements compared to the other compilers in GCC. Ada has specific requirements as well. So it would be better to have them on separate pages.

Giving back to blfs-book. Some editor thinks it is not worth it. Will close as wontfix if nobody speaks up.

Not really. Problem was when, from this, more two modifications would be proposed, in two other pages of the book. This ticket is a good idea. Icedtea and OJDK binary should be kept as is, Bruce and I occasionally need JDK for development. Instead of compiling, for this objective, BLFS binary is used.

I would not be against alternative page or instructions for icedtea, using gcj-ecj.

Yes I proposed modifications, and I received a negative answer... Why do you think I would have bypassed Bruce and you? Maybe I did not state it clearly enough. But of course in my mind, it was something I would have to discuss again, and that could as well be rejected.

OK, then, I am happy with the clarifications. Thanks.

Please, accept my apologies for not having been clear before and hopefully lets go on in peace.

Thanks to you. Now this ticket is second on my list (OJDK update is first). I'll assign it back to myself when I am done with OJDK. Meanwhile, I can send the current state of my sandbox to anybody interested in taking it (roughly, the pages are ready, but not tested).
