Description (last modified by ) ¶
Now icedtea has been forked to separate audio utilities and main JVM. Only a mercurial snapshot is available http://icedtea.classpath.org/hg/icedtea-sound/file/86856b2e3d18 (thanks Fernando). I do not know when the release is expected, (the NEWS file has version=1.0.0). The plan would be to test and upload this snapshot to anduin.

I have to say that I disagree pretty strongly about the need for sound. IcedTea-Sound-1.0.0 was released on 7/18. Are you guys still including the plug-in in the binary distribution (not sure if the goal is still to mimic the closed distribution, or just provide a bootstrap build)? If so, then this should probably be included as well.

There is no sound right now in the latest binary distribution on anduin. It is useless for the purpose of bootstrapping, and it seems nobody using the binary for something else has spoken up yet.
I agree that icedtea-sound should be added to the book, though. I do not know how close we are from the freeze. I guess it could be ready by the end of the week.

I still have to test that it works (find some java sound application and run it and hear something...), but the build is fine.

FreeTTS is a Java package that seems to play sound. It's already in BLFS. When I tested it, it should've played something but I didn't hear anything - probably because of this package was missing.

Thanks Armin, but again, I do get sound when running the test command from the book (using the -streaming switch), without the package installed!
It looks I do not know enough about java sound...

There reeally isn't any need for audio in iced-tea right now. Moving to future.
