I'm giving this back to the book. There are many other tickets, e.g. gnome with some relatives, that could be faster for me doing, and the book needs some speed at the moment.

Please hold off on open ldap. I've almost got it done. I'm going to create a new consolidated patch incorporating DJs suggestions. But go ahead on samba.

Thought this would be easy, I have already installed it and seems to be running fine.
However, needed to use
--without-ads \ --without-ldap \which seems to be a contradiction.
Spent a lot of time trying to install openldap, to enable ads, but present instructions do not work. Will post a message in dev.
