Found this:

You can use the generic url http://ftpmirror.gnu.org to automatically choose
a nearby and up-to-date mirror.

Shouldn't we use it?

comment:3 by Fernando de Oliveira, 9 years ago

No problem with me. It is not https.

Tested:

http://ftpmirror.gnu.org/gcc/gcc-5.2.0/gcc-5.2.0.tar.bz2.sig

and it gave me

http://mirror.nbtelecom.com.br/gnu/gcc/gcc-5.2.0/gcc-5.2.0.tar.bz2.sig

http://gnu.c3sl.ufpr.br/ftp/gcc/gcc-5.2.0/gcc-5.2.0.tar.bz2.sig

Sometimes, [ufpr.br] is slow, but this is not a big deal. In general, it might provide us faster downloads.

The mirror is fine with me. I don't particularly care if it https or http. The important thing is that the md5sums match.

Note that the LFS website is not https and I don't see a reason to change it.

Replying to bdubbs@…:

You forgot, but once you recommended en passant that we should use https wherever possible.

I don't mind either, was just following the boss' recommendation. :-)

In this case whenever possible means that we don't want to pay for a certificate. A self signed cert is not very useful on a web site.

LOL.

No, I was referring to the URLs as Pierre was asking, not anduin or LFS.

What I was teasing was your memory, but I think it is the result of many responsibilities, not what referred to earlier in a post to dev (or was yesterday?). Now I am the one forgetting :-)

I am almost blind, this hour, need to rest. Couldn't have a last re-reading in the LXQt packages. Writing here, because will not be able to do any other thing tonight.
