Sending back to the book. I have bigger fish to fry with GNOME. I will take it back if it isn't taken by the time I am done with GNOME.

I'm having a hard time with GCC 6. One of the problems is that the bundled copy of firebird needs some tweaks to build with GCC 6, but distros do not have patches for that part, since they ship their own version of firebird. I've found patches in upstream firebird, or upstream Libreoffice, but it is really painful...

Take your time. I would hope that upstream recognizes the problem and will issue fixes in the next few weeks.

Actually, the only problem with GCC 6 is Firebird. Using --disable-firebird-sdbc in configure switches allows the build to pass. I do not know whether disabling firebird (a relational database tunning on Windiws and Unices) would upset our users. I'll ask on support.
