Well, https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/52.0.1/source/thunderbird-52.0.1.source.tar.xz works too. Note that there is one component less in that path compared to that in the book (mozilla.org between pub and thunderbird). If adding that component, you get redirected to the above.

This ticket is premature. There is no version 52.0 yet. The most recent version as of this comment is thunderbird-52.0b3.source.tar.xz (15 Feb). Note that the current release is thunderbird-45.8.0.source.tar.xz (6 Mar).
The only thing I can find for version 52.0:
This directory contains Solaris builds of the Thunderbird 52.0, which are contributed by Oracle Solaris Desktop Beijing Team. If you have any problem with these builds, please send email to ginnchen at gmail dot com
The tarballs there are binary only and only for solaris.
