Description
the filenames in the patch refer to glibc-2.3.5, rather than glibc-2.3.4 - hence the patch command (as given in section 5.6.1) can't figure out which file to apply the patch to, and asks
when told to apply the patch to the appropriate file, it appears to take and the tests run to completion
so, it looks like all that needs to be fixed are the filenames inside the patch

Nothing needs to be "fixed". The patch applies fine if you follow the directions given in the book. Most likely you left off the "-Np1" from the patch command.
