    <title>Installation of Pkgconfig</title>

    <note>
      <para>These instructions back port the bug fix from
      <application>pkg-config</application>-0.18.1. The 0.18.1 version
      incorporates name changes that are, perhaps, to be reverted.  If you
      prefer to use 0.18.1, you should not run the <command>sed</command> command
      and you must add <filename class="directory">/usr/lib/pkgconfig</filename>
      to your <envar>PKG_CONFIG_PATH</envar>.</para>

    <para>Install <application>pkgconfig</application> by running the following
    commands:</para>

    <title>Configuring Pkgconfig</title>

    <para>The default setting for <envar>PKG_CONFIG_PATH</envar> is
    <filename>/usr/lib/pkgconfig</filename> because of the prefix used to
    install pkgconfig.  You may add to <envar>PKG_CONFIG_PATH</envar> by exporting
    additional paths on your system where <application>pkgconfig</application>
    files are installed. Note that <envar>PKG_CONFIG_PATH</envar> is only needed
    when compiling packages, not during run-time.</para>
