looks like QT now uses openssl-1.1, got a compile-issue with 1.0, none so far with 1.1.

Wow. I just built qt-5.10 at -j4 and the SBU ballooned to 39.277. Build size was 9817.855 MB. Installed size is 225M with libraries stripped.
I do have mariadb installed so that may have increased things slightly, but there are only 17 lines in the log that mention mysql (2 lines mention mariadb).

I have got:
Build size : 9,6G /home/tmp/qt/build Duration : 2921 sec SBU : 74.89 (factor 39) Install size: 225M /home/tmp/qt/bin
Sizes seems comparable, but SBU differs a good amount. What could be the reason? I'm also using -j4 (and have postgresql instead mysql):

My log is at http://anduin.linuxfromscratch.org/~bdubbs/files/qt-everywhere-src-5.10.0.log
I edited it so it's not too big.
Is there any chance you may have had swapping going on when you were building?

Let me add that you have an absolute time of 2921 sec and I have 3652.8 seconds.
My SBU time is 93 seconds. Did you use an SBU time calculated with -j > 1?

ah, thats the reason - at least one. I did not unset MAKEFLAGS in chap5-binutils. Real facotr is 98 - so nearly same as you have (93). With this it calcs to SUB=29.8 for QT here. significant lower. Wonder why your run took 650 sec longer. In the log you have some more 'yes' in X11 and a few in the database section.
Now
https://download.qt.io/official_releases/qt/5.10/5.10.0/single/qt-everywhere-src-5.10.0.tar.xz
Was qt-everywhere-opensource-src-5.9.3.tar.xz
I like the shorter name.
