For gnome-session, there were significant changes made to the systemd integration. Bruce helped me develop a sed to get it building on SysV again, but I will need to test it separately (after the GNOME Apps ticket is completed most likely). My SysV machine is rather out of date with respect to GNOME packages, so it'll probably be a couple days before I can do that. My current goal is to get this ticket done and Applications tonight/tomorrow.
