is there a way to relocate /usr/share/info/dir to somewhere in /var ? It's changed really often. Probably /usr is not the best place for such files.

It's false now. With the patch, LFS book provides, applied.

It's only updated (or SHOULD be updated) whenever a package is installed, same as pretty much everything else in /usr.

Some of the items in this ticket that are Errata material need to be merged with likewise errata material from #2315 and conglomerate into a dedicated errata ticket.

I'm going to mark this as fixed. The items we are going to fix are in -dev and there will be a new book out that overcomes the need to fix these details in the errata.

In the future, please create separate tickets for unrelated items. It makes fixing easier.
