KDE crashes totally unless...

if one freshly installs X11 and KDE, KDE will crash (I've seen this case 3 times by now, one was my own LFS and twice in the support chat). To be exactly, one of KDE's subsystems crashes after another. To solve this problem, fontconfig has to be rebuilt/-installed (configure, make, make install).

I don't know why, but this worked in all three cases fine. So this has been confirmed. But I don't know if this happens only with Xorg (as in this 3 cases) or also with XFree.

After installing X, run this command:

fc-cache -v -f

Please report back if that fixes the problem.

A question for the OP. Do you use a package manager for installation?

I've no idea what an "OP" is in this context, but if you mean me, no, I don't use a package manager.

And I'll tell you if the fc-cache thingy works, as soon, as I see that problem again...
