From the changelog:

  • Reload current directory before selecting new files (Issue #524)

In order to make sure that all new files are added to the view before selection.

  • thunar-tree-view: Dont show menu-item "properties" for unmounted devices

Showing it results in a wrong properties dialog (last folder)

  • Removed 'the root folder has no parent' dialog box
  • Revamp the documentation to modernize and uniformize accross components

Everything went smoothly here, but it's worth noting that you need to log out of your existing XFCE session (if you're in one) and log back into it in order to test the new version of Thunar. If you don't do this, you'll be opening the previous version (in this case, 4.16.5).
