Marty J. reported on blfs-dev:
Apple has announced that they are suspending development on CUPS. As I reported earlier, the project has been forked by OpenPrinting and is hosted there. Michael Sweet continues to be the lead developer. Here is a roadmap that was linked in a Phoronix article on this.

I've been running the OpenPrinting releases for a while now with no issues.
