While we wait for an official release of 1.18, we should probably update to 1.17.6 (which came out three days ago) similar to what we did with 1.17.4.
This hasn't been uploaded to Cairo's website as far as I can see, only ftp.gnome.org

Currency fixed, but I had to do it with a hack to be like the other gnome packages. We can use ftp://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/gnome/sources/cairo/1.17/cairo-1.17.6.tar.xz as an ftp reference as well as the https reference above.

The status of Cairo's website is unclear to me with respect to whether it is still authoritative. There has been a change of primary maintainers.
There is a repository at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/cairo/cairo/-/tree/master
and it does have 1.17.6 as a tag described as "snapshot". You will find meson-cc-tests/check-unused-result.c missing from the 1.17.6 release tarball, which they have noticed and committed a fix for. Unknown if there will be a new tarball.

I have already downloaded the new tarball. I'll try to get it in the book tomorrow.
