I just ran into a nice replacement for rpm2cpio (perl script):

Closing this bug as there is really no way to fix it. There is no place in BLFS for this, and it probably could go in the Wiki somewhere. Hopefully, the OP will see this message (his email addy is posted here and an email should be auto-sent from Trac) and send the package into BLFS-Dev for addition to the downloads page. Also an update somewhere on the wiki would be nice.
This is part of bug-cleanup and because this bug cannot really be fixed (it isn't really a BLFS issue) it's being closed.
