I got around to checking what to update for the soname bump in exiv2. As noted on -dev, stuff uses gexiv2 which needs to be recompiled. But checking the book to see what else I have using exiv2 I found an entry for gegl.

Looking at my installed gegl I could not see this, so looking at the source of gegl-0.4.44, in meson_options.txt I read 

# obsolete - no effect
option('exiv2',         type: 'feature', value: 'disabled')
