The question is whether we need mercurial at all, now that openjdk development has moved to github, and mozilla development to gitlab... Let's ask the list.

This is not true, sorry. Mozilla development is still on mercurial. Various repos on github are "read only git mirror of [mercurial repos]"

I guess we cannot archive hg before BLFS 12.2 then.
