I believe the backslashes in the following two lines of server/databases/mariadb.xml need to be moved to the right. 

      -D INSTALL_DOCDIR=share/doc/mariadb-11.4.3       \
      -D INSTALL_DOCREADMEDIR=share/doc/mariadb-11.4.3 \
