The NEWS file is confusing. It is headed "GEGL-0.4.62 2025-10-04" but the packages is version 0.4.64 and today's date. In any case here are the changes specified.

Ops:

  • GeglOperationPointComposer3 (a base class) got support for OpenCL processsing.
  • ff-load: support ffmpeg8
  • gif-load: more robust error handling
  • threshold: make opencl variant more portable
  • mirrors: improve subregion damage

Build:

  • reduce bashisms
  • only generate pdb (codeview) symbols on win32 - fixing gcc build breakage
  • ci updates
  • optiona DWARF debug symbols on windows
  • drop many half-vendored subprojects (babl, glib, json-glib, libjpeg-turbo, libpng)

Per op-testing:

  • code cleanups
  • use downloadable reference images addressed by hash in addition to hash comparisons.

Core:

  • escape registerted operation blurbs with g_markup_escape_text
  • fix of dllexport redeclarations warnings on windows

Looking over at https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Releng/security/-/wikis/home - it seems like this has a fix for CVE-2025-10921. That's a remote code execution vulnerability related to GIMP.
