Just a heads up, when upgrading this package, configuring useradd defaults should be moved to after configuring shadow to work with PAM to avoid all of the items from being displayed as error that we sed out in the next group of commands.

Additional note..I didn't check, but I'm not sure that the 'useradd -D' command is needed anymore...I thought I remembered somebody saying something about it before...maybe not. Anyway, check it out on a clean system.

And I checked. The default is now /home, however, the sed for /etc/useradd is still required.

... Only if you don't want user mail in /var/mail.

I cannot figure out what you're trying to say here. I'm going to start a thread on -dev so this doesn't get lost after I update the package and close this ticket.

Updated BLFS to Shadow-4.1.2.2
I'm taking this ticket as Bruce did not not take the Linux-PAM ticket and unless you install Linux-PAM, installing Shadow won't do anything that isn't already there.
Also updating to a more recent version due to security concerns. See: information at http://pkg-shadow.alioth.debian.org/
