Problems with totem, this and previous version. Appeared In this running systemV (hybrid) LFS.

Plays the videos, but:

  1. Takes more than 20s for the window to appear.
  1. I cannot find how to go to the videos, how to navigate. Need to play the video from terminal (video specified in the command line that starts totem) or from a file navigator (pcmanfm, nautilus).
$ totem Video.mp4 &
[1] 28079
fernando [ ~ ]$
(totem:28079): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: g_object_set_valist: object class
'GstPlayBin' has no property named 'sink'

(totem:28079): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_new_for_path: assertion
'path != NULL' failed

(totem:28079): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name
org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

(totem:28079): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkMenuBar 0xa1171a0 is mapped but
visible=1 child_visible=1 parent GtkApplicationWindow 0xa20b1e8 mapped=0

[1]+  Concluído              totem Video.mp4

Help would be much appreciated.

Tomorrow, I will try in LFS-7.5, ISTR that I did not need any org.gnome.SessionManager, for this to work, there.

For today, I am stopping now.

The other thing is that I will try to install the gnome packages from the book, because until now I only have terminal, vte and totem and dependencies, including nautilus, if I am not forgetting any.

With point 2, I had the same issue with 3.12.0. Just had another look. There is a plus button on the top left hand corner, if you press this then select Add Local Video.. You can then navigate and add videos to your main panel within Totem. With point 1, it takes less than 1 sec to launch for me.

I do not get any warnings when launching totem from terminal. I'm guessing you have a missing codec or something. I'm guessing the DBus warning looks like something to do with systemd (missing .service files) I just try to build 3.12.1, but it failed due to gstreamer version not being 1.2.4. I'll let you know if I find anything different once I update gstreamer and then totem.

Installed 3.12.1. Totem behaves exactly as before with no issues. In regards to you first warning, do you have the following during configure:

GStreamer 1.0 playbin element... yes

(playbin — Autoplug and play media from an uri) If you attach your configure output, I can have a look to see if anything is amiss.

Thanks, Wayne.

Been playing with it, after your comments, without success. It was installed with --enable-nautilus, reinstalled without that switch, woth --enable-debug.

Point 2. Yes, I know. It is one of the reasons that I did not like totem-3.12.0, as I wrote in the Gnome ticket. Problem here is that clicking in that option does not bring the dialog for navigation.

Point 1. It does have "GStreamer 1.0 playbin element... yes".

With debug enabled, I have:

(totem:16621): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: g_object_set_valist: object class 'GstPlayBin' has no property named 'sink'
Entity: line 2: parser error : XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><CLASSIFICAVISTI>
     ^

(totem:16621): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
Entity: line 2: parser error : XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><CLASSIFICAVISTI>
     ^

(totem:16621): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkMenuBar 0x89b61a0 is mapped but visible=1 child_visible=1 parent GtkApplicationWindow 0x8aae1e8 mapped=0

I will attach the complete build log, only 16KB (xz).

Wayne, some good news.

The menu entries for navigating to a givem video is appearing. Tie is still the same for, unfortunately.

What I did: install and reinstall many packages. Change everything to Adwaita. may be it was there before but I could not see it.

Installed in the order:

gnome-video-effects gtksourceview libwnck polkit-gnome yelp gnumeric libass gconf dconf

dconf was installed but not gconf nor the other packages above.

I have also installed a large number of packages until gnome-settings-daemon, but it is interfering with LXDE, and i am disabling it.

Installed new totem in LFS-7.5, works fine and gnome-settings-daemon does not interfere with LXDE, there. However, versions are different.

I will not investigate further this last point to see if older gsd would work in LFS svn or vice-versa, if newer works in 7.5.

Will wait for your reply and then update totem as is. Works, only problem takes very long to start. But not for you. So, I think I can update.

I've compared your configure output with mine. The one main difference (apart from 32bit vs 64bit) is that you are missing zeitgeist. This is a recommended package by the gnome developers (jhbuild). Please note that Totem has an optional dependency zeitgeist and not libzeitgeist (I'm not sure what the story is behind the name change). I have version 0.9.14 of zeitgeist. https://launchpad.net/zeitgeist/0.9/0.9.14/+download/zeitgezeitgeist-0.9.14.tar.xz

Thanky you very much for investigating, Wayne.

I will try it. Doubt it is my problem, as it is working fine in LFS-7.5. Either the sysV running/systemd installed but not running is the problem, or, more probably, I have something in wrong I did to the system, pre-Totem.

We can reopen, depending on the other discussion on zeitgeist.
