From the debian/changelog

libpaper (1.1.24+nmu4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix ""Multi-Arch: same" but postrm removes arch-independent
    configuration":
    Guard removal of /etc/papersize in libpaper1.postrm with check for
    DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_PACKAGE_REFCOUNT; depend on dpkg (>= 1.17.2).
    Thanks to Ivo De Decker for the proposal.
    (Closes: #682420)
  * Debconf template translations:
    - new: Polish, thanks Michał Kułach, closes: #658159
    - updated: Turkish, thanks Atila KOÇ, closes: #688293

So pretty much distro-specific. But since we, like everybody else, are using debian as our upstream …

As I have already said to Bruce, when I put this into the book (not sure if most of my testing was on 7.5 or svn), it seemed to be used, and PDFs I created with texinfo were A4 size - using identify from ImageMagick, and google, to find what the numbers meant. With my recent TeX testing on 7.6 I seem to again be creating letter pages, which is weird. But since texlive ships its own version and will use that in the absence of a system version, I guess this should go in anyway.

I'll test it, and then check that texlive builds and runs against it, and is no worse.

In fact, I've put it in, rebuilt texlive, and run all of my test suite. I have one item which I supply as an A4 PDF (don't have all the fonts on this box), and 'identify' shows that as 595x842. I have one other xelatex document which I specify as a4, that too is 595x842. Of the remaining PDFs, those created in (pdf)latex and lualatex are 612x792 which is letter, those created in context and xelatex are A4.

Fun! And no regression.
