Adding the instruction: 

./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-static

we can install only the shared lib.

Do we need the static lib?

Never mind, it creates a problem.

However, removing the static library after install doesn't seem to pose any problem, at least for /sbin/mkfs.xfs

Actually, no program installed by this package is linked to the static lib.
