xorg ati driver: radeon firmware link is out of date
|Reported by:||Owned by:||Bruce Dubbs|
At the moment, the radeon driver has a note about firmware, with a link to Alex Deucher's freedesktop.org site.
That is convenient (easy to download files in a browser - wget just gets index.html) but out of date. The radeon firmware is now in the radeon/ directory of linux-firmware, which is rather less easy to download from a browser (but can be done). The LICENSE.radeon has moved to the top-level with the other licenses and is now dated 2015, and running a check on kaveri_ce.bin shows that some of the content has changed.
Using hexdump -C to dump each version to a text file, then diffing those text files, shows a lot of changes, so best to use the current versions.
I'll do this with LFS ticket 3771.
For the moment, I'm inclined to just point to linux-firmware's cgit, and title the link as "linux-firmware (in the radeon directory)" - from there it is a little awkward for the first time user, no sure if any further info is needed.
Main discussion will be on LFS ticket 3771
