Looks like The ABI changed between 7.0.4-5 and 7.0.4-6, and current git has reverted the change... See ​https://abi-laboratory.pro/tracker/timeline/imagemagick/ Not sure we want to put 7.0.4-7 (or -6) in the book. Ah, looks like the current (and only downloadable 7.0.4) version is 7.0.4-8. For how long?

Use your judgement on what version to use. They update quite often so no matter what one we use, it will change between freeze and stable releases.

Problem is they remove versions fairly quickly! Git has been bumped to 7.0.4-9, so I guess 7.0.4-8 might disappear soon...

Thanks, had forgotten to check that all was already in the book. Updated to 6.9.7-8 and 7.0.4-8 at r18302. Keeping open and releasing ownership.

AFAICS, Oregon state only has 7.0.4-3. At github the download is .tar.gz with different size and md5sum. Unless Bruce has already downloaded 7.0.4-8, I think we need to change those details for 8.0.

Not sure how Oregon state university works. I've seen both "-8" files in the list of "Files in BLFS svn missing on anduin", so I guess they should make their way to osuosl soon. Using github is a pain, since wget downloads files with names vx.x.x, so that we'd have to instruct the user to use a special wget instruction, not much better than suggesting to take it from Oregon state.

Two things:

I've asked Pierre to send me the -8 version of IM7 so I can put it on OSU. I was able to get the IM6 version.

We list upstream's original location so users can go there for the "official" developers's site if desired.

Current .xz are at ​https://www.imagemagick.org/download/ without a releases directory. github for 6 called it ImageMagick6- but not only as it .tar.gz, it was an earlier version.

The patch for 6 applies to 6.9.11-27 as well as to 6.9.10, so I'll upload it in the hope someone can fix emacs (which is the only package that uses it). Will create new ticket for emacs.

On second thoughts, either we should revert to emacs-26.3 (if imagemagick in emacs is important), or we should drop imagemagick-6. See #13932

The ChangeLog is pretty dry, but includes new video options when using ffmpeg, added support for reading and writing 16-bit jxl images (libjxl), fixes for WebP images, and fixing an EXR crash.

It seems that test/validate is no-longer a separate command, and the validation now happens during make check.

I lack pnm, and in validate.log I can read

lt-validate: unable to open image 'rose:': No such file or directory @ error/blob.c/OpenBlob/3537.
lt-validate: no decode delegate for this image format `' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/572.

which is for rose.pnm in tests/
