I believe this applies to both mozilla and firefox but I only know for sure that it applies to firefox version 0.8. When building it the compilation failed in the directory mozilla/gfx/src/freetype when building nsFreeType.o. The problem was that I used x.org and never installed an external freetype. After installing freetype 2.1.7 it worked fine. I suggest that you add the freetype requirement to firefox.

Freetype is a required dependency of Xorg. Installed IAW the BLFS instructions, Firefox would have freetype installed.
