Was: qemu-kvm-2.6.0 fails to allow windows installer to run

This is a regression from 2.5.1. Partial fix is here: ​http://git.qemu.org/?p=qemu.git;a=commit;h=94ef4f337fb614f18b765a8e0e878a4c23cdedcd

Current trunk build works as expected. This only affects Windows installation, not existing VMs, and results in blue screen with either KMODE_* or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

Still investigating additional required changes for complete fix.

Seems to be fixed on all but Cirrus video at rev a93c1bdf0bd4689287094ddb2aae3dc907da3535 per other bug reports.

For something like this, I would expect a new release fairly soon. I recommend waiting a couple of days instead of putting in a lot of effort right now.

Yes, assuming they are close to target, 2.7.0-rc0 is today, with release planned for 2016-08-18. ​http://wiki.qemu.org/Planning/2.7 Probably just sit on it for a bit. If needed, can just install on an unaffected host, and move it after the installation for the next few weeks.

I installed 2.6.1 and did a quick debian jessie install on it. It seemed OK to me.

I just left this open for the 2.7 version when it is released.
