Description
This ticket is to fix the Multimedia problems, summary of which as follows:
DVD Playback: There have been several reports and conversations about DVD's (both encrypted and non-encrypted) not playing correctly, if at all. Someone reported in the lists that they could not get XINE to work either, Bruce couldn't get Star Wars Episode IV running in VLC, and Ken has had problems with DVDs for a long time. Test and fix each Video application. Parole complains about the h.264 decoder.
CD/DVD Writing: Writing to a CD/DVD in Brasero(sysv?), Xfburn, K3b (?), and SimpleBurn fails with multiple different kinds of errors, including one regarding file permissions.
Audio CD Playback: (Discovered by me) Audio CDs will not play back correctly.

I'm willing to close this ticket. I just built a new system (svn 20161215) on my laptop (no /usr/lib64) and the Star Wars DVD plays fine with vlc. I also tried an audio disk and it is playing as I type this.
mplayer seems to work too. I have not installed xine or parole.
I didn't try DVD/CD writing.
My laptop is different from the development system I tested on before so my earlier issues could have been HW or, more likely, older packages than that in the current (svn) book.

Everything I came up with on this one pointed to ffmpeg. VLC was always OK for me, and ultimately Mplayer and anything that used gstreamer was OK after a bit of tweaking. I think they were picking poor output devices but am unsure if that was actually the fix, but they seem to work for me now. Ffmpeg produced output files with constant skips last time I messed with it, but there have been two minor versions since. Also, one of the DVD burning programs, I don't recall which (but it was something out of the ordinary, one of those jenky little frontends to do an all in one conversion), was trying to use xorisofs and complained about a missing -cdrecord flag, so I found cdrkit. I don't know if that is related to the original problems, but I'm not convinced that the growisofs sed is a complete fix. cdrkit is difficult to find, but can still be obtained, I think from RH IIRC.

OK, let's close it. If the problem comes up again, then either reopen or create a new ticket.
