#575 | duplicate | Fileutils / Coreutils
Description |
Version 4.1 of the instructions list as one of the components to be downloaded the Fileutils pack. This has been merged with two other sets to form the GNU Coreutils. Replacing: Fileutils (4.1) - 1,770 KB: http://freshmeat.net/projects/gnufileutils/ is: CoreUtils (5.0) - 5,880 KB: http://freshmeat.net/projects/coreutils/?topic_id=864%2C861 That is, at least as far as I can tell, Fileutils has been deprecated and is no longer available on its own except from FTP servers that have not updated their mirrors. This is as of (on Freshmeat) August 12th. From site: GNU Coreutils are a set of basic file, shell, and text manipulation utilities for the GNU operating system that are expected to exist on every operating system. Previously, they were offered as three individual packages: fileutils, sh-utils, and textutils. Cheers! |

#582 | wontfix | Please consider adding bind, ftp, and lynx to future LFS editions
Description |
Thanks for the LFS book. The exercise of building my own linux system was very informative. But, please consider adding bind, ftp, and lynx to Chapter 6. Or at the least, strongly suggest that the user download those sources prior to booting to their LFS system for the first time. Unless the user has memorized pertinent IPV4 addresses, and can spoof HTTP and FTP protocol by hand via TTY, they will have difficulty obtaining additional software for their new LFS system. :) |

#585 | fixed | Add prereading hint to the pre-reqs section in the front matter
Description |
I think this hint would be an excellent additional link on the pre-reqs page in the preface of the book. It needs to be updated first, before linking to. |
